“I’ve arrived but don’t see your door; do I have the right address?” “Sorry, I forgot your keypad code. Can you text me?” As a host, you’ve probably received last minute emails just like these. Check-in is one of the most common points of confusion for guests and can cause unnecessary extra work for hosts, too.
That’s about to change thanks to a new tool rolling out from now until the end of next month that lets you add step-by-step check-in instructions using the Airbnb mobile app. We’ll automatically share your instructions with confirmed guests three days before they arrive, and they’ll be able to access them on the Airbnb app throughout their trip, even without a data plan on their phone.
That means you can answer those commonly asked questions once, then rest assured that your guests’ path to entry will be an easy one. Your own path to hosting success will be smoother, too: Nothing sets the stage for a 5-star trip quite like a welcoming arrival.
You can set up your home’s check-in instructions in five simple steps:
- Select your entry method
The first screen will prompt you to select the self check-in option you offer guests.
- Create your check-in instructions
Next, you can add photos and text to help guests locate your place and get inside.
- Upload photos
You’ll be able to add pictures to the check-in instructions right from your smartphone’s photo library, so guests will have visuals to help guide their way. Simply select the photo you’d like to use, and it will be added to your instructions.
- Describe your photos
Once you’ve selected a photo, you can add text to describe it or add more detailed instructions.
- See a preview
After you add photos and text, you’ll have a chance to review your instructions. We suggest taking your time at this phase: Try to read this as a potential guest would. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who’s never visited your home or neighborhood before. Are your instructions clear enough to steer them successfully inside?
For extra security and peace of mind, remember to change door or lock-box passcodes between guests.
And that’s it! Once you create your instructions, we’ll do the rest of the work for you: We’ll automatically share your check-in instructions with confirmed guests three days before they arrive at your home.
Now that you know what to expect, you’re ready to begin. Grab your smartphone and add your check-in instructions now.
