As 2014 comes to a close and we look ahead to 2015, the Airbnb team is celebrating Holiday Sharing around the globe. From Diwali to Thanksgiving to Chinese New Year, and from Milan to Seoul to San Francisco, our Airbnb community is embracing many ways to share and give back to our amazing host cities and local neighbors.
Here are a few of the ways our teams are participating in Holiday Sharing in their hometowns throughout the world:
In Brazil, members of the Airbnb team celebrated the holiday spirit with Vivencia Feliz NGO, supporting holiday festivities for an assisted living center in Sao Paulo.
In Seoul, Airbnb team members gathered together to knit baby caps, which will be collected and sent for distribution to newborns in need around the world with the help of Save the Children.
In Portland, Airbnb is partnering with Central City Concern, a non-profit organization based in our office neighborhood who helps residents move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Through a new donation tool launched in Portland, local hosts will now be able to donate a portion of their hosting income to this exciting program with an Airbnb matching commitment. At the office opening our team kicked off the project by donating funds and volunteer efforts to assemble 100 move-in kits to welcome residents to their new homes. Our team members also had a great time preparing Thanksgiving meals at several of the housing sites.
In our Copenhagen office, Airbnb hosts joined our local team over waffles to collect clothes and canned goods for Maendenes Hjem, a local homeless shelter Airbnb has partnered with in the past.
Members of the Airbnb team in Singapore spent time preparing and serving meals with Dignity Kitchen, a social enterprise who aims to support disabled and disadvantaged members of the community through educational programs, job training and meals. Volunteers from Airbnb served lunch to the elderly and had a great time engaging with the group. The day even included a group karaoke session!
In San Francisco, over 250 Airbnb hosts from around the world joined us in November to complete over 670 hours of service in the community. For the second year, our team is also hosting a holiday drive to support Episcopal Community Services (ECS). This year’s drive is focused on necessities—socks and blankets—to help keep ECS’ Next Door shelter clients warm during a rainy winter. We are proud to donate and serve meals at Larkin Street Youth Services drop-in center and at ECS’ Sanctuary Shelter as part of our ongoing commitment to these organizations.
While we are especially grateful at this time of year, giving back is not just for the holiday season. We are looking forward to growing and sharing new efforts in 2015.
