At Airbnb, we are passionate about creating a world in which everyone can belong, anywhere. We know that this starts with a trusted foundation, and it’s why we’ve worked so hard to build a community where our hosts and guests can share their homes, enrich their lives, and promote safe and positive experiences.
In the last year, we’ve worked with partners in the U.S. and in Europe to provide trainings and insights around women’s safety and domestic abuse, as well as support and raise awareness about the work that organizations, like Women’s Aid, are doing everyday across the UK and in our local communities to provide life-saving services for those impacted by domestic violence. Women’s Aid delivers over 300 lifesaving services through its 220 federated services.
Domestic abuse is a devastating crime that impacts across all communities. In England and Wales, 2 women a week on average are killed by a partner or ex-partner. The police receive an emergency call related to domestic abuse every 30 seconds.
November 25th to December 10th mark the 16 Days of Action Campaign. Having started on the UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women (25th November) and culminating on Human Rights Day, these 16 Days of Action serve as a critical and poignant time to make visible an often invisible human right’s issue. Together, we can all make a difference, and we invite you to join others around the world in these two weeks by learning how we can all take part in creating lasting change in our local communities.
We also wanted to share some opportunities to support the incredible work that Women’s Aid will be doing during this time, and in the year ahead. Find out more about Women’s Aid and ways to support their important work to keep women and children safe here.
We are proud to support these efforts, and we are continually grateful to the individuals and organizations around the world working to end domestic violence.
