With Thanksgiving approaching, we took a look at the numbers and analyzed travel that is taking place over the coming holiday weekend. We’ve compiled them into our first ever Thanksgiving report, which you can read here.
Five years ago, during Thanksgiving weekend of 2010, roughly 2,500 Americans stayed with Airbnb hosts. This Thanksgiving, over 250,000 Americans will be staying in an Airbnb listing. In the last five years, Thanksgiving travel on Airbnb has grown 100 times over.
Over 50,000 hosts across the U.S. will be opening their homes to travelers over the Thanksgiving holiday. The average host will earn $440 sharing their space. That’s enough to:
- Buy Thanksgiving dinner for their family and seven other families.
- Purchase 19 Thanksgiving turkeys, or 80 pumpkin pies, or 190 servings of cranberry sauce.
- Slash their holiday shopping bill by over 50%. The average family will spend over $800 celebrating the holidays in December.
