Airbnb helps grow the Tourism pie in France. Airbnb attracts visitors, who are able to stay longer and spend more as a result of the new accommodation option. Airbnb travelers stay a average of 3.8 nights at destination, and spend 600 euros per stay. 23% of Airbnb guests would not have gone on their trip, or would not have stayed as long without Airbnb.

A Complementary Accommodation Option
Guests are choosing Airbnb as an accommodation option for many reasons. However, despite the growth in Airbnb’s popularity, the hotel industry in France has remained strong, seeing recent growth in nights booked. 66% of guests would not have stayed in a hotel even if Airbnb had not been an option 83% of guests prefer Airbnb because homes provides more amenities than typical hotels.

Tourism Benefits Spread Across France
Airbnb distributes economic impacts to cities and neighborhoods that have not traditionally benefited from tourism spending. With Airbnb properties across more than 11,000 cities and villages spread across all 13 regions in France, Airbnb visitors are staying in and exploring places they might never have otherwise visited. One third of Airbnb guests visit Paris, yet Airbnb guest visit all 13 French regions. 76% of guests said they were looking to experience local cultural events.

Impact on residents and Households
Airbnb helps many French residents pay for regular living expenses and provides some additional spending money. The typical Airbnb host in France earns € 1,970 per year, renting out space in her home about 26 nights per year. 42% of hosts say hosting help them to stay in their homes. Hosts use much of their Airbnb income to pay for regular households expenses and for spending extra money.
