Austin is that rare breed of city that when you sidle up to a busy bar, not only do they turn and say hello, but they’ll beckon you up to the counter to order beside ’em. It’s this genuine warmth and care that makes the citizens of this Texas town the best of hosts. This past weekend, travelers flocked by the thousands to the city of the Violet Crown for the South By South West: Interactive Conference, and Airbnb hosts in every neighborhood opened their doors to welcome them.
Seizing the opportunity to meet these folks, we decided to throw a little shindig at one of our very own listings, the Museum of Ephemerata. Proprietors Scott and Jen have been collecting various knick knacks, taxidermy, oddities, sculptures, and found objects for the past decade, and now showcase them in several rooms of their house. In the spirit of keeping Austin weird and embracing local character, Airbnb hosts and guests gathered for sunset in the courtyard complete with friendly chickens and bunnies, swilling bourbon and Texas brews to the tunes of folk band, Christy & the Plowboys.
From seasoned Airbnb travelers to first time hosts, each guest had a story to tell. Natalie’s Airbnb host took her kiteflying with the cityscape as a backdrop, and Brian’s host took him to the party! Earlier today on twitter, jimray asked, “How many Airbnb hosts come home to notes [from their guests] that say, “Optimized and reset your router. You’re welcome.” So it’s not just hosts that can lend a helping hand!
