People like it when things are fast. We want our deliveries within an hour, our downloads within a minute, and our news within an instant. That’s why it’s important that you feel confident and comfortable while providing convenience to travelers who want to make their plans quickly.

That’s why we’ve been updating Instant Book for the past several months. Marco and Neca have been using it for their listing in Rio de Janeiro. They gave it a try for two reasons: “Firstly, the increase in searches for housing that offer Instant Book. Secondly, the fact that it made booking easier, even for us.”

We hope you’ll give it a try too! Here are some tips to keep in mind.

You can control the timing for reservations.
You can set the dates when your listing is available for bookings. And you can set minimum and maximum trip lengths for your listing, so you get bookings that are valuable and manageable.

We also don’t want you to worry about getting double-booked if you list your space on multiple sites. Now the calendar sync feature updates immediately, so you can still turn on Instant Book.

Instant Book can make managing your calendar easier.
Offering convenience didn’t require Marco and Neca to change their hosting habits. “Instant Booking didn’t change much at all, as our apartment is always set for a new guest. Right after each guest leaves, we clean the apartment ourselves, which makes it faster.”

But if that’s not your style, don’t worry. Turning on Instant Book doesn’t have to mean that you could get booked at the last minute. If you need time to prepare for travelers, you can block same-day bookings. And you can block distant bookings if you don’t want to commit to reservations that begin many months away.

Trips booked with Instant Book are just as successful.
Hosts who turn on Instant Book can still exchange messages with their guests. They have the opportunity to get to know them and add unique touches to make their stay memorable. That’s why hosts who use Instant Book get 5-star reviews just as frequently as hosts who don’t.

Offering a convenient booking process doesn’t mean you’ll attract people who don’t appreciate hospitality. Marco and Neca explain, “we didn’t notice any important changes in the type of guests.” And to help you feel confident, guests are prompted to read and agree to your House Rules before they book your space instantly.

The lightning bolt can help you stand out.
Hosts who have Instant Book turned on often get twice as many bookings. Guests appreciate being able to make plans immediately, and listings with Instant Book turned on stand out in search results because they’re marked with a lightning bolt. If you’re getting started as a host, or you just want to fill more available nights, turning on Instant Book may help you reach your goals.

But getting more bookings shouldn’t mean you have to change the way you host. If you want to stick with experienced travelers, you can set a reservation requirement that only allows guests who are recommended by other hosts to book immediately. Other travelers can send you requests, which you can approve or decline manually.

At the beginning, Marco and Neca were worried about not getting to know guests before they booked. “Our great worry was about the guest’s profiles. However, when we discovered the pre-selection filters, it became manageable.” They didn’t have to stop offering extraordinary experiences to visitors—in fact, they’re Superhosts! Turning on Instant Book makes it easier to keep their response rate high, and to get lots of hosting experience.
