Airbnb co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Nate Blecharczyk and Guangzhou City Deputy Mayor Chaolin Cai today came together to attend the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (“MoU”) to enhance bilateral relationships, develop the sharing economy and boost tourism in Guangzhou, one of China’s largest cities.
Under the MoU, we will join forces to establish the city as a world-class tourist destination and showcase its unique culture and tourist attractions to domestic and international visitors.
As part of the MoU, the parties have agreed to:
- Use our global user base to help boost local tourism
- Work with the Guangzhou tourism industry to promote the city as a world-class tourist destination
- Work with third parties to evaluate the sharing economy’s impact in Guangzhou
“We’re thrilled to enter this partnership. Guangzhou has a rich cultural and historical heritage, and we’re excited to bring the benefits of home sharing to more communities in this unique city and play an active role in promoting Guangzhou to visitors from China and around the world,” said Nate Blecharczyk.
In addition to Guangzhou, Airbnb has recently signed MoUs with the cities of Shenzhen, Chongqing and Shanghai, as well as a partnership with the China Tourism Academy (CTA), and highlights our continued efforts to support cities that are looking to boost tourism and develop the sharing economy.
Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province, and the host venue for the busy Canton Fair, twice every year. Hundreds of thousands of travelers come to Guangzhou every year for the wonderful scenery, the authentic Yue Cuisine, and the local culture.
