Today we officially opened our North American Operational Headquarters in Portland in Old Town Chinatown. We moved into the historic Blagen Block Building, which was completed in 1888, and worked together with local construction firms, fabricators, and food and beverage companies to design a space that reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of the city.
We’ve hired more than 200 people since coming to town, and 95% of these employees are local Portland residents.
We already know that our community of local hosts and guests contributes substantial positive economic impacts in Portland, and our employees are committed to amplifying these positive impacts in our new home. Portland Airbnb employees have completed over 1,000 volunteer hours since this summer and 74 percent walk, bike, or take public transit to work.
We were also proud to announce an update on our Shared City initiative with the city at the office opening. We will be partnering with Central City Concern, a non-profit organization based in the neighborhood whose mission is to help people end their homelessness and move to self-sufficiency. Providing housing is just the start–their work helps create a warm and welcoming place where people feel at home.
Airbnb is kicking off the partnership with a $25,000 donation to help create move-in kits for Central City Concern’s tenants and clients. Later this month, we will be launching a donation tool that will enable Portland hosts to donate a portion of their hosting income to this exciting program with an Airbnb matching commitment. We’ll have more details on this initiative for our host community in the weeks ahead.
Now that we have moved into this new space, we are also excited to take the next step forward with our disaster response partnership. Our first emergency training with the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management is scheduled for this coming Friday at our office.
We are committed to being a good neighbors and contributing a lasting positive local impact in Old Town Chinatown and beyond! You can check out more about our team and our community of hosts and guests here:
