With a little insight into Airbnb’s Experiences photo guidelines, you’ll get photos approved quickly and set your experience up for success in search results.

Why are photos important

What makes your experience special? Why should a potential guest choose to spend their time with you? A photo can answer these questions before they even read a word of your description.

✓ Make a great first impression

Photos that display the activity involved in your experience as well as the environment in which it takes place work best.

✓ Highlight interaction

Experiences are all about doing, and photos help potential guests visualize exactly how they will be actively participating.

✓ Show context

A wide shot (as opposed to a close-up) includes information about the environment in which the experience will take place, and can help potential guests imagine themselves there.

Photography Guidelines to Follow

Photos must meet specific content standards. Here are the requirements with visual examples of the dos and don’ts of experience photos:

1. Photo shows guests being engaged and interested, and it is clear who the host is

DO DON’T

Example from Chuckwagon dinner on a historic ranch

2. Photo is not a selfie and people are not posing

DO DON’T

3.Photo conveys what guests will be doing during the experience

DO DON’T

Example from Korean Flower cake lesson for everyone

4. Photo can be both vertically and horizontally cropped

Your photos will appear in two places on Airbnb – in search listings (3:2 crop) and on your experience description page (2:3 crop).  So a single photo needs to work as both a horizontal and vertical image. As you can see in the example below, the bottom 30% of the image will be covered by text on mobile, so you’ll want to make sure that no important information is in that area.

5. Photo is in color, not black and white

DO DON’T

Example from  Silent Disco Fitness in The Woods

6. There is no text overlaid on the image

7. It’s one photo, not a collage of several photos

8. Photo is of a high enough resolution (photos must be 480 x 720 or bigger at 72dpi)

9. Photo is well-lit and not too dark

10. Photo is not stretched or distorted

Photos may also be rejected if they depict smoking or alcohol use, children, nudity, or dangerous or illegal activities. As laid out in our Terms of Service, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you have the right to post the photos you submit and that you are complying with all relevant marketing, intellectual property, and other laws.
