Sunsets over deserts. Forests in the clouds. Highways that run along the sea. When we dream about travel, we dream in combinations.
Michelle is a host with a feel for the way guests dream. She lives in a 3 bedroom home in the Camps Bay neighborhood of Cape Town, South Africa with her husband Bernhard and their two young children. Her listing is encircled by spectacular scenery, with mountains on one side and the beach on the other. The space charms travelers with its captivating setting and comfortable open living plan.
Michelle loves the home, which reflects her passion: exploring the mountains and the beach with her family. “The soul of this home, for me, is about the elements,” she says. “We are surrounded by trees and nature outside and now we have managed to replicate that inside the house.”
Each year, the Airbnb community recognizes extraordinary hosting at the Host Awards during Airbnb Open. Last November in Paris, Michelle won the Unique Listing award in honor of her home’s stirring environmental design. Airbnb guests have called Michelle’s space an “absolute dream” and a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Michelle worked with professionals to design the home around a vision of freedom and openness. “The architect really helped us to turn the house into something that flows very easily,” she says.
Michelle is a dedicated mom who loves to teach her children to garden. Her care for the environment informs her home’s sensitive approach to nature and architecture. She believes that her space is truly unique because of the way it integrates with the natural surroundings.
Michelle also sees similarities between hosting and parenting, and says that hospitality is about looking out for others and making sure they have what they need to feel safe and comfortable. She’s glad that her home is a place that guests can enjoy for an inspiring getaway.
“We’re very fortunate to live here,” she says, “I have a special bond to this house because it enables you to interact with guests, and you get so much back from people when you are caring and kind.”
