Being available as a host while you’re on the go means you can manage reservations, check your calendar, respond to inquiries, and help your guests feel supported throughout their whole trip. But you’ve told us that the most powerful mobile hosting tool you have could be better. That’s why we’ve spent the last year learning from hosts to make significant changes to the Airbnb mobile app.
We’re excited to tell you about the improvements that will make managing your listing and reservations faster, and provide you more information, wherever you are. We’re gradually rolling out these features, and we’ll be making them available to more hosts in the weeks to come.
Here’s a peek at some of the new features:
- Inbox: reliability, right from the start
Around 70% of all messages from hosts are sent from the app, and messaging is the most used feature. Now, your Inbox is the first thing you’ll see when you open the app. We also heard that the inbox was slow to load and that messages would sometimes fail to send, so we invested in technology that will make your inbox feel faster and easier to use.
- Inbox search & archiving: find what you need, hide what you don’t
Hunting through your inbox for that one message from a guest can be difficult. But now you can remove old messages using the archive feature to keep things clean and simple. Message search can also help you find what you’re looking for. Now you can search by guest name or keyword and you’ll see any messages that match your search.
- Saved responses: to save you time
We know that guests often ask the same questions of hosts before and during their stay. And typing long responses on your phone can be inconvenient. Now with the saved responses feature you can type those messages once and reuse them again and again with just 2 taps. You can also type messages on your computer and they’ll show up on your phone for use later.
- Improved calendar: schedule and pricing details at a glance
The new calendar is designed to show check-in and checkout dates more clearly. We also added a “details” view so you can see the price of any date just by scrolling over it—no more tapping on each date to see that day’s price. The details view also shows you which dates are blocked by your calendar settings.
Finally, we know that many hosts use calendar notes on the web to leave yourself reminders about all kinds of things, like why you blocked dates, when family is visiting, or when events in your local area mean you should alert guests about extra traffic or noise. Now you can view and add those notes on your phone.
- Resolution center: solve simple problems, faster
You’ve had access to the resolution center on the website for a while now. It’s great for settling simple problems with guests, and now it’s available on your phone too.
- Change reservation: make trip adjustments anytime
You’ve been able to send and review reservation changes on the web and on android for quite a while now, and with this update we’re bringing that feature to iPhone users too. Send requests to guests, and review, accept, or decline requests from guests using this feature.
- Photo messaging: when a picture’s worth a thousand words
You know those moments when it would be easier to show your guest where that hidden key is rather than try to tell them? Or when language barriers make it tough to describe where that thermostat is? With photo messaging you can send photos to your confirmed guests.
- Stats: performance and reviews, at your fingertips
The new stats feature includes richer details to help you see what’s going well and what guests think you could do a bit better. Now you can see the individual ratings, read reviews for every trip, and browse them more easily using new filters. Also, you can view a summary of how each of your listings is performing in every category—you’ll find these stats all in one place, next to the written reviews.
Special thanks to the hosts who volunteered to participate in beta testing the new app. And thanks to each of you who’ve offered suggestions and feedback to the Customer Service team, in the Host Voice survey, in the Community Center, in person at Airbnb Open, and with team members all over the world. You’ve helped us build a better mobile hosting app, and we hope it helps fuel your hosting success. Keep your ideas coming!
