Yesteday, at an event in Los Angeles, Airbnb co-founder and Chief Product Officer Joe Gebbia and LA-area Airbnb hosts joined ServiceNation, Chelsea Clinton, Jimmy Kimmel, and other partners to announce the launch of Serve A Year. Serve A Year is an initiative that aims to inspire millions of young Americans to serve a year through programs like AmeriCorps. And Airbnb is supporting this effort by providing accommodations and a place of belonging to AmeriCorps members as they transition to a new cities and embark on their service year.
“Enriching our neighborhoods is at the core of Airbnb, and we are proud to partner with ServiceNation in building a powerful, national movement to expand and inspire millions of young people to serve a year in communities across America,” said Joe. “Teaming up with our incredible host community, we’re thrilled to help provide new AmeriCorps members with a welcoming place to call home as they embark on their year of service to strengthen America’s cities and communities.”
At the launch event, Joe shared the story of Sambavi, an AmeriCorps member who recently moved to Washington D.C. for her year of service with LIFT. While she settles into her new city, Sambavi will be staying in an Airbnb. Every day on Airbnb ,hosts across the country open their doors and their hearts to visitors, and we are thrilled to be a part of this campaign. And our commitment to ServiceNation is just part of our ongoing work to strengthen the neighborhoods in which we live and work, and a way to ensure that individuals can truly “belong anywhere.”
