From the very start, the Airbnb community depended on superb hosts who open their homes to guests from around the world. To recognize the Airbnb hosts who work to provide extraordinary hospitality to guests every day, we’re rolling out an update to our Superhost program.
In 2009, we launched the Superhost program to recognize the early hosts who helped set a high standard for hosting on Airbnb. The Airbnb community has grown considerably since then, but it’s just as important now as it was in 2009 that we showcase the top-performing hosts in our community. With the updates to the Superhost program, we are renewing our efforts to recognize the hosts who work to consistently help guests belong anywhere.
How to be a Superhost
Great hosting comes in many forms. When we talk to guests, it’s the differences and nuances from host to host that make great hospitality stand out, and the travel experiences so memorable. The Superhost program embraces this diversity and focuses on the core elements of hospitality shared by all great hosts: communication, commitment, guest satisfaction, and experience.
Guests experience the hospitality of Airbnb hosts firsthand every day, so the community helps determine who becomes a Superhost through ratings on Airbnb. To earn Superhost status a host must excel in these areas (measured over the past year):
- Communication: At least 90% response rate to guests
- Commitment: No cancellations (barring extenuating circumstances)
- Guest satisfaction: At least 80% of reviews are 5-star
- Experience: Hosted at least 10 completed trips
And what do hosts get for becoming a Superhost (other than a sense of pride in the accomplishment)?
- A Superhost badge on hosts’ listing and profile pages
- Travel coupons on Airbnb (after a year of Superhost status)
- Airbnb product previews
- Priority support from Airbnb (starting on November 1, 2014)
All hosts will be able to track progress on the key hosting metrics in their host dashboard, so every host will know exactly where they stand at any time. With the Superhost program, we don’t just want to recognize hosts in the community, we want to show that being among the best is within every host’s reach—and we want every host to be the best with their own unique style.
