Over the weekend, the island nation of Vanuatu was devastated by a category 5 cyclone – Cyclone Pam. The storm was among the strongest to ever impact the region.

According to the Vanuatu government, the United Nations, and relief organizations already on the ground, many fatalities have been confirmed, many more seriously injured and thousands of families displaced as a result of the destruction. Reports are still coming in from some of the nation’s more remote islands.

The people of Vanuatu are some of the most caring and hospitable people in the world, and since the storm struck we have heard from members of our community asking about ways they might be able to help. Several relief organizations are providing support to those who were impacted, working closely with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in support of the Vanuatu government led response, to provide vital resources such as food, water, shelter, and medicine.
